Welcome to the Permanent Mission of Haiti to the United Nations.
We have the honor to welcome you to our site and we thank you for the interest which you express with regard to our country, the Republic of Haiti.
Haiti, one of the founder members of the United Nations, always made an effort, in collaboration with the Member States, to work with the full implementation of the principles of the Charter of UNO based on peace, safety, the economic and social development, the equality of the races and the respect of the people, the right to self-determination and non-interference.
Since May 2004, the United Nation Mission for the Stabilization of Haiti (MINUSTAH) works in the Haiti, within the framework of the resolution 1529 of February 29, 2004 of the Security Council, in the objective "to facilitate the continuation of a peaceful and constitutional political process and the maintenance of safety and stability in Haiti".
October 17, 2005, Haiti was elected for one three-year period, as from January 1, 2006, member of Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), by 138 votes out of 189. This new position of Haiti within one of the six principal bodies of the Organization, after nearly two decades of absence, makes it possible for the country to take part more easily in the great decisions concerning the economic and social development of the planet and to benefit greatest from it.
We encourage you to regularly visit our site to inform you on the various activities of the Permanent Mission of Haiti at the United Nations and on the general situation of the Country.
-His Excellency Mr. Leo Merores
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary
Permanent Representative of the Republic of Haiti
